Expired Youth Opti Sailing Session 9 – 2019

The Optimist sailboat is the perfect place to start your child’s love of sailing. Sailed around the world, the Optimist is the go to class for Jr. sailors. Learn the basics of sailing from rigging to boat handling and everything in between. Each one week session is designed to get your child comfortable and confident in an Optimist.

This is a week-long class (M-F, 9:00-3:30) for kids of any sailing ability ages 7-13 in Optimist dinghy’s.  Nine sessions will be offered this summer.  Kids will be grouped in classes by age and/or skill.  This class follows curriculum developed by US Sailing designed to engage kids and advance their development.

Youth sailing sessions use two types of boats: Optimist dinghies and Club 420s. Though there is overlap between the boats, smaller, lighter kids tend to prefer the Opti’s and older, heavier kids tend to prefer the 420. When assessing the student, kids may be moved to a different boat if we think that will provide a better experience and better learning opportunity.
