Expired Youth Club 420 Sailing Session 6 – 2018

For older sailors who may have already sailed in Optis or are just too big for Optis. In this one week session students will learn about on the water safety, tacking, gybing, sail trim, and boat handling. No experience required to take part in the Club 420 sailing. The only requirement is the student must be 100+lbs. This is because there is more weight required to counteract the power of the larger sails.

This is a week-long class (M-F, 9:00-3:30) for kids of any sailing ability ages 11-17 in Club 420’s.  Nine sessions will be offered this summer.  Kids will be grouped in classes by age and/or skill.  This class follows curriculum developed by US Sailing designed to engage kids and advance their development.

Youth sailing sessions use two types of boats: Optimist dinghies and Club 420s. Though there is overlap between the boats, smaller, lighter kids tend to prefer the Opti’s and older, heavier kids tend to prefer the 420. When assessing the student, kids may be moved to a different boat if we think that will provide a better experience and better learning opportunity.
