- Members may make up to two open sailing reservations at a time.
- Sailors sailing outside of your approved navigation area(s) may result in temporary or permanent loss of sailing privileges with no refund of your membership fees.
See Zone Map
- No sailing is permitted in the Mooring Field. This includes the J/22’s – no sailing from or to your mooring – motor only.
- No sailing is permitted in the navigation channel between Beercan Island and the Minnesota shore.
- No sailing is permitted under the small bridge connecting the dike to shore (Hudson side of the Mooring Field).
- In the event of impending foul weather or lightning within 10 miles, all water activities will be canceled until at least 30 minutes after lightning has left the area.
- Sailing in wind speeds higher than approved may result in temporary or permanent loss of sailing privileges with no refund of your membership fees. That being said, sailing is a learning process – If you would like to expand your sailing abilities, please contact one of our instructors!
- If winds increase beyond your approved wind rating during your session, you are required to return to shore. (Unless given permission to continue sailing by an SCSS staff member.)
- All boats must be returned by the end of the session. Lack of wind is not an excuse – you need to be vigilant and check the forecast ahead of time. If the wind is light or diminishing, don’t sail too far away from the school. Late returns may result in temporary or permanent loss of sailing privileges. Non-emergency tows will be billed at $50.
- Extending your sailing session may be possible by contacting the Director (if your boat is not reserved in the next session).
- J/22 sailors should have a cell phone to contact the school or 911 in case of an emergency. Stored below in a waterproof bag is a good idea. VHF radios are not powerful enough to reach the school when sailing south of the I94 bridge.
- Members may not use our boats in any sanctioned event, including SCSC regattas.
- The Saint Croix Sailing School will not reimburse any expenses members may (but are unlikely to) incur with the use of our boats. For example: fuel purchases, tow services, docking fees, fines or penalties.
- By participating in any sailing activities or using any facilities or equipment provided by SCSS, I agree to assume all risks and to release, hold harmless, and indemnify SCSS, its officers, members, volunteers, and affiliates from any and all liability for injury, loss, or damage to myself or my property, whether caused by negligence or otherwise, to the fullest extent permitted by law.
- Sailors must also agree to our standard policies: https://www.saintcroixsailingschool.org/learn-more/policies/
- These policies may change at any time.
