The second annual River Run Regatta returns to Hudson and the Saint Croix River on July 9. More than 75 young competitors from around the region are expected to attend. Great spectating is available in Lakefront Park; come on down and enjoy a beautiful day in the Saint Croix Valley. Notice of Race. School starts in just a couple weeks. Registrations are pouring in but there’s still room available in most of the sessions – don’t delay or you may not get the week you want. The schedule page will show you all the options plus give you a link to the registration form and waiver.

“Jon’s Aurora” joins the fleet

Sadly, Jon Moore, a great supporter of sailing in the St. Croix Valley, passed away earlier this spring. Jon’s wife Jennifer, along with a number of Jon’s friends, has purchased a new Optimist dinghy to add to the school’s fleet to honor Jon’s memory. The boat will be named Jon’s Aurora and will help support the school’s mission of introducing sailing to the areas youth along with the many life-long lessons that sailing can deliver. The boat is being manufactured in North Carolina and will be christened here shortly before the 2010 season begins. We are grateful and honored to have received this gracious gift.

Adult Program gains new boat!

The schools mission is squarely focused on youth sailing. But after receiving countless inquires about adult lessons we felt there was demand and need for an adult program. Last year we conducted adult classes in our 420s, which worked well but clearly the 420 is less than an ideal adult learning platform. This year an anonymous donor offered to fund a boat if we were willing to expand our adult offerings. We said “of course” and are now happy to announce that we have acquired an O’Day Daysailor for adult lessons. This is an ideal boat for any level sailor. It is comfortable and stable yet performs well and gives helpful feedback that promotes learning. Info on our adult lesson program is available here.

Community Open House Saturday, May 8th!

Everyone is welcome to stop by the Saint Croix Sailing School on Saturday, May 8th from 11a.m. to 3p.m. - we want you to see what we are all about! Come over and enjoy a free hot dog and refreshments as you browse the facility and check out the sailboats up close. Staff will be there to answer any questions and assist you with registration. Not registering for classes? No problem, stop in just to socialize and visit with others in the community! Hope to see you there!

Can you help turn the lights on?

Our sailing pavilion needs electricity. We need to charge radios,
power a computer to monitor weather, keep the water cool for the kids, and provide power for the tools to keep everything tip-top.
Unfortunately bringing power to the facility is going to cost $840
(even after volunteers do some of the heavy labor). Can you help make this happen? Please consider donating all or part of the what it will take to turn the power on — if you can help please contact Jon Morris at jon@SaintCroixSailingSchool.org. Thank you!!

Adult Lessons Offered Again

Due to overwhelming interest and demand we will again offer adult lessons this summer. Here’s how it works: The adult lesson package costs $200 and includes two two-hour sessions each including shore-talks as well as on-the-water training. The $200 fee covers one or two sailors — your choice. The lessons are essentially “private” and will be individually scheduled for you. Lessons will begin immediately after Memorial Day; a completed registration form along with full payment will place you on the “to-be-scheduled” list. Learn to Race with the SCSC

The St. Croix Sailing Club (separate from the St. Croix Sailing School) has an active racing program on the St. Croix. The club is offering a course for adults who would like to learn how to crew on these racing sailboats. No experience is necessary. The four-day class includes on-shore as well as on-the-water training. The class runs from 9:00-4:00 May 22-23 and June 5-6. Lunches and an instructional handbook are included. The $210 fee includes a full membership ($110 value) in the St. Croix Sailing Club. Register at http://www.stcroixsailing.com/. You must be 18 to participate.
